Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery — Johannesburg
For Dr Wei-Han Chen, art and surgery have always been one calling. A specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon, he brings an artist's eye for proportion together with meticulous surgical precision — to enhance what is already yours, never to replace it. Every plan begins with listening, and an honest conversation about what surgery can, and cannot, achieve.

01 / Procedures
Surgical and non-surgical care across every area of the practice. Every treatment plan is built around your anatomy and your goals, with an emphasis on proportion, safety and results that still look like you.
Breast surgery may enhance volume and shape, improve symmetry, relieve physical discomfort or restore the breast following previous surgery. Each procedure is individually planned to achieve a balanced result that suits the patient's body and goals.
Body-contouring procedures reshape specific areas by addressing resistant fat, loose skin and changes following pregnancy, weight loss or ageing.
Restoring balance, definition and a more rested appearance while preserving the features that make each patient recognisable — from eyelid, brow and nasal surgery to non-surgical injectable refinements, all planned to complement your natural anatomy rather than change your identity.
The removal and reconstruction of skin lesions, treatment of problematic scars and complex wounds, and restoration of form and function following injury, illness, cancer treatment, burns or previous surgery — with attention to both recovery and appearance.

Dr Chen is a specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon whose work joins two lifelong callings — a desire to help people, and a deep appreciation for art, form and beauty. His interests span facial aesthetic surgery, breast surgery, body contouring, and the reconstruction of skin cancer.
His approach is deliberately unhurried and personal. Every consultation begins with listening, and every result is planned to enhance what is already there — natural, balanced and unmistakably you. If a procedure is not right for you, he will say so.
03 / Your pathway
Four stages, in order. You will know what happens at each one before you commit to anything.
A full review of your medical and surgical history, then an open discussion of what you want to change. Expect around 45 minutes.
A written plan setting out the procedure, hospital, anaesthetist, expected recovery and a full quotation. Yours to take away and think about.
Dr Chen reviews the plan with you again on the morning. You meet the anaesthetic team before theatre. Always in an accredited hospital.
Your follow-up is booked and medication arranged before you leave hospital. Scheduled reviews continue until you are fully healed.
04 / Costs
Nobody enjoys asking. Here is the honest position before you pick up the phone.
Reconstructive and medically indicated procedures — such as breast reconstruction, skin cancer excision, scar revision and non-healing wounds — may qualify for medical-aid benefits, subject to the rules of your scheme, available benefits and pre-authorisation. We submit the motivation on your behalf.
Breast reduction, upper blepharoplasty affecting vision, and gynaecomastia may qualify where clinical criteria are met. We will tell you at consultation whether yours is likely to.
Purely aesthetic surgery is self-funded. Your quotation covers surgeon, anaesthetist, hospital and follow-up as separate line items, with no unlisted extras.
Your consultation has a set fee, confirmed when you book so you know it upfront, and payable on the day. Medical aid members may be able to claim it back, depending on their plan and available savings.
A consultation is a relaxed, no-obligation conversation about what you would like to change and what is realistically possible — with a written plan to take away.
