BLEPHAROPLASTY

WHAT is it and is it right for YOU?

At WHC Plastic Surgery, we understand that the eyes are one of the most expressive features of the face. Over time, however, the delicate skin around the eyes can change — leading to heaviness, puffiness, or a tired appearance that doesn’t reflect how you truly feel. A blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a refined procedure that can restore freshness, openness, and confidence to your gaze.

What Is a Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. It is performed to improve appearance, enhance eyelid function, or, in some cases, to restore vision affected by excess skin.

Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty

This procedure removes or reshapes excess skin and, when necessary, underlying fat on the upper eyelids. It can help:

1. Lift heavy or hooded lids

2. Improve symmetry

3. Brighten and open the eyes

4. Improve vision when skin droops over the eyelashes

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty

This technique targets concerns beneath the eyes such as puffiness, bags, or loose skin. It can:

1. Soften eye bags and bulges

2. Reduce puffiness

3. Improve shadows or hollowness

4. Smooth fine creases

Both approaches aim for a natural, refreshed appearance — never overdone or artificial.

Cosmetic vs Functional Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty may be performed for cosmetic reasons, functional reasons, or a combination of both. Cosmetic blepharoplasty enhances the appearance of the eyelids, creating a more youthful and rested look, whereas Functional blepharoplasty is recommended when excess skin interferes with vision, causes discomfort, or affects normal eyelid movement.

At WHC Plastic Surgery, your consultation helps determine which approach best suits your needs.

Do I Need a Blepharoplasty?

You may benefit from blepharoplasty if you experience any of the following:

1. Excess skin folding over the eyelid crease

2. A heavy, tired, or “sleepy” appearance

3. Eyes that appear smaller or less defined

4. Difficulty applying eye makeup
5. Skin drooping over the lashes and affecting vision

6. Persistent under-eye bags

7. Puffiness that doesn’t improve with rest

8. Hollowing or deep shadows

9. Wrinkled or crepey skin

These changes can be influenced by ageing, genetics, sun exposure, and lifestyle factors. However, eyelid concerns are not always caused by the eyelids alone. Brow position, midface volume, and overall facial support can also contribute — which is why a personalised assessment is essential.
